Volkswagen has just announced the ID.Polo, an electric and compact version of the hatchback, one of the brand’s flagship models.

The German automaker released official photos of the new car, which also marks the company’s shift in focus toward fully electric vehicles.

The ID.Polo will arrive in the European market in 2026 and will be affordable, costing under €25,000. Alongside it, VW also unveiled the ID. Polo GTI, a sporty version of the electric hatchback.

Compared to the combustion version, the ID.Polo is larger in all dimensions, with 6cm more in height, 7cm more in width, and 3cm more in wheelbase. Another key difference is its trunk, which will have a capacity of 400 liters compared to the 100L of the combustion model.

Mechanical details of the electric models have not yet been disclosed, but their range is expected to be around 420 km on the WLTP cycle. All models should feature high-capacity batteries with support for fast charging.

The entry-level model is expected to have 100 hp, while the sporty version could have over 200 hp. The ID.Polo will weigh around 1,500 kg, placing it in the agile and easy-to-drive compact car segment.

While the brand is transitioning to naming its new vehicles with the ID badge, as with current models ID.3, ID.4, and ID.7, the ID.Polo keeps a familiar name for consumers.

And this is intentional. Last month, Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen, stated that “iconic names should not die,” suggesting that the current IDs had not been able to fully resonate with customers.
